The Big Cheese!

Old Winchester Extra Mature from Lyburn Farmhouse Cheesemakers secured Super Gold in this year’s World Cheese Awards, held 14 November at the BBC Good Food Show in London.

Now in its 26th year, this year’s event drew nearly 2,600 entries from 33 countries including Argentina, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand. But it was a British cheese (Bath Blue – from the West of England) that collected the World Champion trophy.

Over 250 cheese experts from 26 nations travelled to London Olympia to take part in the judging, with a final panel of six top-name global experts selecting the top title.

Other Hampshire Fare members who achieved notable success in this keenly fought competition included Laverstoke Park Farm, awarded Gold for their Buffalo Gouda and Silver for their Buffalo Brie, and Two Hoots Cheese, awarded Silver for their Baby Barkham and Bronze for their Rosethorn Blue. Lyburn Farmhouse Cheesemakers also picked up Silver for their Stoney Cross.
